The first week of Session 1 was a great success! The campers were all enthusiastic and full of creative energy, and the weather was perfect! Groups 1-4 are spending the day at Princeton University, seeing a play and visiting the art museum. Everyone had fun tie dyeing, and many campers have already worn their colorful shirts to camp. Here’s a sampling of some of the other activities at Ravens Run this past week:

Drawing & Painting with Kim

Groups 1, 2 and 3 painted with acrylics near the canal and river. Groups 4 and 5 experimented with stencils to make whimsical drawings in the style of Ron De Long. Group 6 worked on pencil drawings of their facial features, and Young Adults started figure paintings. All groups will have an opportunity to paint by the canal or river.

Ceramics with Michelle & Nicole

We are enjoying our new Clay Shack! Each camper made a bowl this week in Ceramics in preparation for our camp breakfast.

We have also started working on name plates, pinch pot monsters, finger puppets and tea bowls. Almost all campers had a chance to use the pottery wheels.

Sculpture with Erin and Allison

Campers are exploring the 3rd dimension in many different ways. Group 1 & 2 made patterned kites. Groups 3 & 4 are constructing 3-D figures, Group 5 & Young Adults are crafting their names in frames, and Group 6 is sculpting “monsters breaking through the wall.” Many groups have started to work on their “Out of the Box” projects.

Stained Glass

Groups 5, 6, and Young Adults learned how to cut, polish, and tape their glass in preparation for soldering.

Photography with Alexis

Each group had a turn with digital photography this week, exploring the outdoors to capture shapes, shadows, and light. We concentrated on rhythm and patterns, framing our subjects with trees or other objects in the foreground and had a photo scavenger hunt. Your child’s photos are available for you to view and download at: www.picasaweb.google.com/ravensrun

Theatre with Shannon

This week in theatre we played games that allowed campers to improvise and work in teams to create scenes. Today, Groups 1, 2, 3 & 4 saw a production of The 3 Little Pigs at the Princeton Summer Theatre.

Dance & Yoga with Alexis & Annemieke

Our campers are learning different routines and dance moves, expressing themselves through movement while learning balance and motor skills. Some groups are already working on their dances for our performance on July 13th. During yoga, the campers are practicing poses and stretching in an effort to be more relaxed and limber!

Printing & Bookmaking with Sam and Allison

This new class got off to a great start! Campers are busy creating linoleum prints and experimenting with silk screening. Some groups are folding and dyeing paper to be used in bookmaking.

Electives: Everyone in Groups 2 – YA participated in the elective of their choice: Gi- Normous Art, Hello Cupcake, Glee, It’s all Smashed Up, and Project Runway.

Magic

Campers learned a variety of magic tricks from master magician, Dick Gustafson. Ask your child to perform some magic for you!

Camp Portraits

Alexis, our photography teacher, took portraits of each camper this week. Portraits can be viewed and purchased in the lobby area, for $10 each, before and after camp next week.

Upcoming Events
